5Senses | Spiced Basmati Rice
Ingredients
Basmati rice - 2 cups
Water - for washing and soaking rice
Oil - ¼ cup
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
5Senses Bay leaf - 1
5Senses Cloves - 4
5Senses Green cardamom - 4
Onion - 1 large, sliced
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Chicken stock cubes - 2
Water - ¼ cup, for sautéing
Salt - 1 tsp
Water - 4 cups, for cooking rice
Roasted cashews - for garnish
Roasted almonds - for garnish
Directions
1. First, take 2 cups basmati rice. Add water and wash it well 2 to 3 times.
2. Soak the washed rice for 25 to 30 minutes.
3. Take a karahi/wok, preheat it on the stove and add ¼ cup oil.
4. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, 4 cloves and 4 green cardamom pods to the oil. Cook for 1 minute.
5. Now add 1 large sliced onion and cook until lightly golden.
6. Once onions are golden, add ½ tsp turmeric powder and mix.
7. Then add 2 chicken stock cubes and ¼ cup water. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
8. Now add 1 tsp salt and mix well.
9. Add the soaked 2 cups of rice and mix well with the other ingredients.
10. Then add 4 cups water, mix well, and bring it to a boil.
11. After it starts boiling, cover with a lid and cook for 15 minutes.
12. After 15 minutes, the rice is ready. Serve it.
